Short bio
Mariana de Almeida Costa is a postdoctoral researcher from the Institute for Transport Planning and Systems, ETH Zurich. Her research project lies in the area of urban mobility, more specifically, how to enhance urban mobility through improving public transport in modern cities. She is formerly an Industrial Engineer with solid industry background, having worked directly in the areas of consultancy, supply chain and logistics. During 2015-2017 she earned an M.Sc. in Operations Research from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Atlanta, USA), the same institution where she earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering ('Statistics track') in 2020. Her doctorate research focused on the development of data-driven statistical models for the analysis and optimization of the maintenance decision-making process in railway track and wheelset maintenance, combining the study of trade-offs between minimum cost solutions and ease of implementation of the recommended policy.
