Short bio

Dr. José Balsa-Barreiro joined the Institute for Transport Planning and Systems (research group of Traffic Engineering) of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zürich as Postdoc Fellow in July 2016. Previously, he was working as European Experienced Researcher (Marie Curie Postdoc Position) at the Institute of Photogrammetrie of the University of Stuttgart (Germany) in 2015.

As researcher, Dr. Balsa-Barreiro have been associated to the Department of Mathematical Methods and Representation (DMMR) of the University of A Coruña (Spain), although also has collaborated with other institutions or research groups such as the Institute on Traffic and Road Safety (INTRAS), Research Centre for Vehicle Technology (CiTV), the Institute for Studies and Economic Development of Galicia (IDEGA), and the Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) of the Politecnico di Torino, in Italy.

Further, he has worked in the private sector at the International Consulting Group Tecnoma-Typsa (Valencia office, 2004-2005) and in the Public sector at the General Direction of Tourism of Galicia (Santiago de Compostela headquarters, 2005-2006) and the Cartographic Institute of Valencia (Valencia, 2010-2013) as engineer and I+D expert.

Dr. Balsa-Barreiro is International Ph.D by the University of A Coruna (Spain) and the Politecnico di Torino (Italy). He is also graduated in Industrial and Geomatics Engineering by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain), further to Geographer by the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). His research interests include geographical analysis, mapping, urban and transport planning, among others.
